South Wales Valleys north of Cardiff and M4 Motorway

South Wales Valleys

The South Wales Valleys combine mountains with river valleys; urbanisation with countryside;  lakes with bogs and heather;  heritage buildings and industrial memories with modern vibrant shopping areas.   People flocked here in the 19th century from other parts of Wales, Ireland and further afield.   They were seeking work and riches.   Their descendents are welcoming to strangers and learning to enjoy living in an area of tourism.

  1. I have lived in the western Valley, in the heart of the black domain, all my life. The people who were martyrs
in the industrial Revolution are many but the one man we and the Labour movement have forgotten John [Edward] Morgan. From the Sirhowy valley, western valley and Eastern valley. Hanged in Monmouth Jail for
being a miner and Scotch cattle.
