Guardian overlooking Six Bells
This fantastic miners' memorial is tucked away deep in the Six Bells valley.
Standing 20 mtrs high (as high as the Angel of the North) it makes an emotive
statement, standing, as it does on the site of the Six Bells Colliery.

Excellent visit yesterday (19th June) Nordic Walking Taster session for the ICRF Caravan rally members. Everybody were impressed with the scenery and the Guardian.
ReplyDeleteWhat a transformation! From Coal mine to derelict dump for so many years and now a wonderful nature walk, with river and pond plus a beautiful memorial statue. I have never seen so many tourists in Sixbells in all the years I lived there! Brilliant !

ReplyDeleteI finally went to Six Bells and was indulged with a guided tour from the Lady herself! I cannot believe it has taken me so long to go. It is truly inspiring and I believe there should be more memorials of this kind in all the mining villages across the Valleys. Thank you for the tour Meg, I look forward to coming again :)
